AI, Prompts & Costs
• AI module 30 Jul 2026 by Support Team

Rewriting a job text, working out who your ideal candidate is, producing ad copy, retyping resumes and sorting through applications: all jobs that take time and the first ones you drop when you are under pressure. Booston has an AI module that works alongside you in exactly those places, instead of sitting in a separate screen waiting for instructions.

You decide how much AI is allowed to do. Every feature has its own switch, you set the tone of voice and your own instructions, and there is a monthly budget around all of it. By the end of this article you will have AI switched on, you will know what each feature does for you, and you will be able to see exactly what it costs at any moment.

So it is not a black box: you steer AI's behaviour through prompts, you can see in the dashboard which fields AI filled, and every AI action is recorded per job and per type of action. You will find the screen under Campaigns & AI → AI.

Before you start

  • The AI module is an add-on. With AI switched off the dashboard works exactly as it did before: no functionality disappears, nothing is simply added.
  • You need a user with access to Campaigns & AI → AI. If you cannot see that menu item, or one of the three tabs is missing, the permissions are not set.
  • You need two things to get started: the main switch Status and a Monthly AI Budget. Without a budget AI does not run, not even with the switch on.
  • The labels in this article are written exactly as they appear on your screen. The Booston dashboard is in English, so you will find Status, Monthly AI Budget and Job text creation word for word.

The three screens of the AI module

Everything to do with AI sits under Campaigns & AI → AI, spread across three tabs. It helps to know which tab you need for what.

Tab What you go there for
Settings The main switch and your monthly budget. This is where you start.
Prompts What AI is allowed to do per feature, and how it sounds: tone of voice, length and your own instructions.
Cost & Performance What AI has done and what it cost — in total, per type of action and per job.

The order in this article follows those tabs: first switch on, then set up, then use and measure.

Step 1: switch on AI and set your monthly budget

This screen has one card, General, with two fields. It is the only place where you switch AI on and off as a whole.

  1. Switch Status on. This is the main switch: with it off, no AI action runs anywhere in Booston and every AI button is greyed out.
  2. Enter the maximum amount AI may cost per calendar month at Monthly AI Budget.
  3. Click Save.

How the monthly budget works

Before every AI action Booston checks whether the amount still fits: the costs you have already run up this month plus the cost of this action must stay within your Monthly AI Budget. If it does not fit, the action does not go ahead.

Two things you need to know:

  • A budget is mandatory. If you leave it empty, or enter 0, AI does not run — not even with Status on. This is the most common reason AI appears to "do nothing".
  • The counter runs per calendar month. On the first of the month it starts at zero again.

Checking whether AI is really on

Open Campaigns & AI → AI → Cost & Performance. With AI switched off you will see a red message at the top. If you do not see that message, AI is active.

Step 2: record your company profile

Here you fill in one field: About the Company. A free-text description of who you are as an employer — what you stand for, what makes you different, how you talk about yourself.

This field is the thread running through all AI output. When you switch on the Include company info option for a feature, this text goes along as context. The difference between a generic job text and one that sounds like your organisation largely comes down to this single field.

Then click Save at the bottom of the page. The Prompts page has one Save button that saves every card at once.

Step 3: switch on AI per feature

Now that AI is on, you decide what it may do. That happens on one screen, divided into cards matching the modules AI works in: General, Jobs, Candidates and Meta job ads.

Every feature has two switches that both need to be on: the main switch Status from Step 1: switch on AI and set your monthly budget, and the switch for the feature itself. If either is off, the matching button in the dashboard is grey, with a tooltip telling you which one.

Below, per feature: where you switch it on, which module you see it in, and what it gets you.

Job text creation — writing and improving job texts

Switch on at card Jobs, switch Job text creation. You will see it in Recruitment → Jobs, in the job editor.

With this feature on, the Optimize with AI button appears in the job editor. AI writes and improves your job text and, where it can, also fills attributes, location and salary. What you set here is the default for every job; a recruiter can deviate from it per job.

Setting Options What it does
Job text creation on / off Switches the feature on or off.
Tone Formal / Neutral / Conversational The tone of voice AI writes in.
Length Short / Medium / Long How long the text becomes.
SEO optimized on / off Optimises the text to be found in search engines.
Conversion focused on / off Steers the text towards applications rather than just informing.
Include company info on / off Takes your About the Company text from Step 2: record your company profile along as context.
Audience analysis Skip if unavailable / Run if missing / Always run fresh / Don't use audience Whether and how the audience analysis is used while writing.
Additional instructions free text Instructions added to the prompt word for word.

The Audience analysis option decides whether a second AI action runs alongside, and therefore whether it costs more:

  • Skip if unavailable — use an existing analysis, skip it when there is none. No extra cost.
  • Run if missing — if there is no analysis yet, AI runs one first. This costs extra.
  • Always run fresh — always run a new analysis before the text is written. This costs extra every time.
  • Don't use audience — ignore the analysis entirely.

Candidate audience analysis — know your audience

Switch on at card Jobs, under Candidate audience analysis, switch Enabled. You will see it in Recruitment → Jobs, on the Audience tab of a job.

AI analyses who the ideal candidate for this job is and how well the job matches what that candidate is looking for. It is the foundation under better job texts and better ads: the outcome can serve as context for both.

The analysis produces five blocks per job:

  • Audience snapshot — a profile of the ideal candidate, with an indication of how well the job fits.
  • Primary motivators — what this audience genuinely responds to.
  • Likely objections — the friction points that make candidates drop out.
  • Conversion hooks — the arguments that do convince them.
  • Language & tone for Meta — advice on wording and tone.
Setting Options What it does
Enabled on / off Switches the analysis on in the job editor.
Analysis depth Quick / Thorough How deep the analysis goes. Thorough delivers more and costs more.
Custom focus free text, max. 2,000 characters Instructions for the analysis, for example "pay extra attention to career changers".

Below the settings sits the Run on all active jobs (one-time batch) button. It runs an analysis in one go for every active job that does not have one yet. You first get a confirmation with the number of jobs included and a note that costs apply. The button is not clickable when AI is off, when Enabled is off, when a batch is already running, or when there is nothing left to analyse — hover over it for the reason.

Resume Parsing — read resumes automatically

Switch on at card Candidates, switch Resume Parsing. You will see it in Recruitment → Candidates, when creating and editing a candidate.

AI reads an uploaded resume and fills the candidate attributes: name, contact details, education, work experience and every other attribute you have set up. Fields filled by AI get a purple AI icon with the tooltip Filled by AI. As soon as someone edits the field by hand, that marker disappears for that field — so you can see at a glance what AI supplied and what a human has checked.

This is the feature with the most immediate time saving per application: a candidate who uploads a resume does not have to fill in twenty fields as well, and your recruiters retype nothing.

Review Score — rate and justify candidates

Switch on at card Candidates, switch Review Score. You will see it in Recruitment → Candidates, in the candidate list and on the candidate itself.

AI gives every candidate a score of 1 to 5 stars against the job, with reasoning to go with it. In the list that score appears as stars with a purple AI icon, so an AI score is always distinguishable from a score a recruiter gave.

You decide what a score means. For that, the same card has:

Field What you put in it
Review Notes What AI should look at in general when assessing candidates.
1 Star to 5 Stars Per level: when a candidate gets that number of stars.

With a large intake this tells you within a minute which applications to pick up first. The score is an aid to prioritising, not a selection decision — the reasoning is included precisely so a recruiter can weigh it up themselves.

Ad Content Generation — ad copy for Meta

Switch on at card Meta job ads, switch Ad Content Generation. You will see it in Campaigns & AI → Meta job ads, in the content of a job ad.

With this feature on, the Generate with AI button appears in the content editor. AI writes ad copy based on your job and delivers three variants to choose from. Ad copy is a different thing from a job text — shorter, more direct, written for a feed — and this feature produces that variant without you writing it.

The same card holds two switches that go with it:

  • Carousel Ads — makes the carousel format available, with several cards in one ad.
  • A/B Testing — makes A/B testing available on your Meta ads.

Video Generation — video from an image

Switch on at card Jobs, switch Video Generation. You will see it in Campaigns & AI → Meta job ads, in the content of a job ad.

With this on, the Generate Video from Image button appears on an ad that has an image. AI turns it into a short video you can use as ad material. Moving image almost always performs better than a static image on Facebook and Instagram, and this way you do not need a video production to use it.

Step 4: using AI in practice

Everything is on. This is how your recruiters work with it.

Have a job text written or improved

  1. Click Optimize with AI. If the button is grey, hover over it: the tooltip tells you whether the main switch is off or Job text creation.
  2. Work through the Run settings side panel. Your default settings are already there and you adjust them here for this one job: Tone, Length, SEO optimized, Conversion focused, Include company info, Audience analysis and Additional instructions. Your defaults from Step 3: switch on AI per feature stay unchanged.
  3. Start the run and wait for AI to finish.
  4. Review the proposals in the Optimize with AI panel. The changes are grouped per block: job text, attributes, and location & salary, so you can see per area what changes.
  5. Click Apply & Save to apply the changes, or Re-run to try again with different settings.

After applying, the fields AI filled get the purple AI icon with the tooltip Filled by AI. If AI produces no changes, the panel says so and suggests running again with different settings.

Run a candidate audience analysis

  1. If there is no analysis yet, click the button to run one.
  2. If there is already an analysis, the top shows when it was made at Last analysed, with the Re-analyse option.
  3. If you want to steer it, open Re-analyse with overrides. Set Depth and Custom focus for this one run and click Run analysis.
  4. Read the outcome in the five cards: Audience snapshot, Primary motivators, Likely objections, Conversion hooks and Language & tone for Meta.

If a batch is running across all your jobs, the tab says so and the manual button is temporarily unavailable. As soon as the batch finishes, this job fills itself.

Generate ad copy for Meta

  1. Click Generate with AI.
  2. Choose a Tone in the Generate Ad Copy with AI window: Professional, Casual, Enthusiastic or Urgent.
  3. Add extra instructions if you want, for example to emphasise remote work or the size of the team.
  4. Let AI generate and review the three variants.
  5. Pick the variant you want to use. The text lands in the content field and can be edited by hand from there.

If the ad has an image and Video Generation is on, you can use Generate Video from Image to have a video made from that image.

Have a resume read and the candidate scored

  1. Upload a resume or drag the file into the upload field.
  2. Let AI read the document. With Resume Parsing on, the candidate attributes are filled and those fields get the AI icon.
  3. Go through the fields and correct what needs correcting. Every manual edit removes the AI marker from that field.
  4. Look at the score. With Review Score on, the candidate gets 1 to 5 stars with reasoning, based on your Review Notes and your star levels.

Step 5: track your costs

This is the screen that shows you what AI has done and what it cost.

  1. Choose your period with the date picker in the top right. It defaults to the last 30 days; you cannot go back further than your first AI action.
  2. Look at the trend in the graph. It shows costs and the number of actions per day, so you spot peaks straight away.
  3. Read the totals under AI Usage Stats: Total AI Cost is what AI cost in that period, Total Actions the number of actions, and Avg Cost per Action the average cost per action.
  4. Zoom in per job under AI Cost per Job.

That last table is the most important one. Per job you see Job Status, Job title and Job ID — and if you have an ATS connection, Job ATS ID as well. Next to that, Spend shows what AI cost for this job in total, and how often each type of action ran: Resume Parsing, Review Score, Ad Copy Generation, Video Generation, Job Text Generation and Candidate Audience Analysis. Every column is sortable, and the job title takes you straight to the job.

Your monthly invoice

Under the AI heading you will find what AI cost per feature last month: Applicant Review Score, Resume Parsing, Ad Copy Generation, Video Generation, Job Text Generation and Audience Analysis, each with "last month" after it.

Where Cost & Performance gives you live insight to steer by, this is the monthly settlement.

How the costs are calculated

AI costs in Booston are not a subscription and not a bundle of credits, but consumption: you pay for what you use.

Every AI action processes text — the job, the resume, your instructions — and produces text. That volume is measured in tokens, and the cost of an action hangs on it. That has four practical consequences:

  • A long job costs more than a short one. More text in, more text out.
  • Thorough costs more than Quick. A deeper audience analysis processes more.
  • Running again costs again. Every Re-run and every Re-analyse is a new action.
  • Running automatically costs automatically. With Audience analysis set to Always run fresh, an analysis runs alongside every text generation.

Every action is recorded at the moment it runs, with the cost that goes with it, and linked to the right job. That is why the amounts in Cost & Performance and on the Subscriptions page always line up, even when rates change later.

What you cannot change yourself

A few things around AI are deliberately not editable in the dashboard. Email support@booston.io if you want to change any of them.

  • The AI model behind the module. Booston selects and runs the model and the environment your AI actions run in, so that quality and cost stay predictable.
  • The rate per type of action. The pricing structure per AI action is fixed per environment. You steer costs through your Monthly AI Budget and through the settings in Prompts, not through the rate.
  • Which tabs a role may see. Whether a user sees Settings, Prompts or Cost & Performance depends on the permissions of that role.

Troubleshooting

I switched AI on, but nothing happens

Almost always the budget. Check that Monthly AI Budget holds an amount greater than 0: without a budget not a single action runs, not even with Status on. Then check in Cost & Performance whether you have already reached the budget this month.

The Optimize with AI button is grey

A switch is still off. Hover over the button; the tooltip tells you whether it is the main switch Status or Job text creation. Both need to be on.

I cannot start the batch analysis

The Run on all active jobs (one-time batch) button stays grey when AI is off, when Enabled under Candidate audience analysis is off, when a batch is already running, or when there are no jobs left without an analysis. Hover over the button for the reason. If you have just switched it on, save first — the button looks at the saved value.

I see an error when uploading a resume, but the candidate is created anyway

This happens in environments where AI or Resume Parsing is switched off: you then see a message about AI not being enabled. The candidate is created normally and nothing is lost; only the automatic reading of the resume does not happen. We are fixing this message in an upcoming release.

Frequently asked questions

Can I deviate from my default settings per job?

Yes. At Optimize with AI you adjust the settings in Run settings for that one run, and for the audience analysis you do the same through Re-analyse with overrides. Your defaults in Prompts are left alone.

How do I see which fields AI filled?

By the purple AI icon next to the field label, with the tooltip Filled by AI. Edit the field by hand and the marker disappears for that field.

What happens when my budget is used up?

New AI actions are not carried out. Whatever is already there stays: nothing is lost. Raise your Monthly AI Budget or wait for the new month, because the counter then starts again.

Do I have to switch on every feature?

No. Every feature works on its own, so you can use only Resume Parsing and leave the rest off. Only the audience analysis has a connection: it can serve as context when writing job texts and ad copy.

Can AI publish a job or reject a candidate?

No. AI drafts, fills in and scores, but publishing, saving and deciding always stay a manual action.

Coming soon

We are working on a number of extensions that make the AI flow simpler and bring it into line with the rest of the dashboard. As soon as they are live, we will update this article.

  • Building a job entirely with AI. You paste raw job text or a job url, AI runs the audience analysis first and then builds the whole job — title, text and attributes — after which you check and save it in the familiar job editor. That replaces the two separate panels with a single wizard.
  • The Audience tab is being split into two blocks, each with a follow-up action, so the analysis is not just insight but also a starting point for improving your job.
  • The audience analysis automatically on new jobs. A new setting that lets you choose between running it manually and running it automatically when a job is created, including jobs that come in through your ATS. Analyses then run in the background, with a live status and a clear message when a run fails.
  • AI as a full campaign type. AI joins Meta job ads and the job board network as a third block on the Boost page of a job, and becomes visible in your job overview.
  • Meta job ads fully on AI. You choose once between content templates and AI, after which ad content is generated automatically per language, with the audience analysis as context and a Regenerate button to steer it.
  • More grip on length and tone, including a setting for the maximum number of words.
