Strengthening the candidate journey by showing content where it truly makes a difference.

With your Booston recruitment website, you can do several things to improve the candidate journey. In this blog, we’ll dive into the various forms and flavors of Booston’s blog features. The Booston blog module doesn’t have to be used solely for traditional blogs. Booston’s blog features are multifunctional and can take on many forms and flavors. In this blog, we’ll discuss the most common types: blog feed, news feed, and showcase feed.

Why is this important? Some organizations spend large sums on advertising vacancies to attract the right candidate. Unfortunately, they often fall short once the candidate lands on the recruitment website. Navigation is frequently difficult, and the site is perceived as dull. This can result in low application conversion rates.

“First impressions last” — nowadays, this is no longer a handshake and a smile, but a strong recruitment website and a solid candidate journey. You have the opportunity to inform, inspire, motivate, convince, and activate candidates through your recruitment website. You can do this by incorporating your employer brand to give a sense of workplace culture, showcasing the impact of a role to motivate, expressing your mission, vision, and strategy to activate, sharing the latest industry news to inform, or highlighting exciting recent projects to inspire and persuade. All of this is possible with Booston’s revamped blog features.

1. Forms and flavors

In this chapter, we’ll explore a few content formats that can strengthen the candidate journey: blog feed, news feed, and showcase feed. The goal of any strategy should be to inform, inspire, convince, and activate the candidate.

1.1 Blog feed

The most familiar format is, of course, a blog feed. A blog is essentially an organization’s journal, updated regularly. Blogs typically focus on topics relevant to your target audience — not only to improve the candidate journey but also to enhance SEO performance. Blogs are also a great way to express your employer brand, giving candidates a feel for the workplace and culture. Furthermore, they can serve to discuss trends or industry challenges.

1.2 News feed

Booston’s blog features can also be used as a news feed. With a news feed, you keep candidates informed of the latest relevant updates. This allows you to inform and activate them effectively.

A strong example comes from several large marketing organizations. There was a staffing shortage in marketing, while psychology graduates struggled to find jobs. These marketing companies saw an opportunity, as psychology aligns well with marketing. By publishing relevant content about developments and challenges in psychology, they convinced many to transition into marketing — a clear case of how news content can shift perspectives and attract talent.

1.3 Showcase feed

Booston’s blog features can also be used as a showcase feed — essentially a display window for presenting environments, cases, or scenarios in an appealing way.

Use a showcase feed to highlight the impact of a role or feature past projects. By sharing these projects, you can inspire and convince candidates to apply. There are many possibilities, often dependent on your industry. The aim should always be to present what makes your organization unique.

2. Properly displaying your content

Not choosing the traditional blog format? Then follow these steps to prepare your recruitment site for the content feed of your choice. You’ll always have the flexibility to customize content, even if you opt for the blog feed.

2.1 Step 1

Start by adjusting your blog archive page. Go to content > pages, select the blog archive, and edit the title as desired. Then click the wrench icon. Here, you can also edit the page title, slug, and meta description. Want to know more about meta descriptions? Read this article.

Next, give your page elements appropriate names. Review which elements are being used and rename them as needed. You can use "blogs list quick presentation" for showing blogs on your homepage and "blogs list side" for displaying blogs alongside relevant vacancies. Curious about all display options? Go to content > page elements and search for "blog" to see all available elements.

Still using default page elements? You can also edit them at the global level. Click the “default” link on the page element to modify it. Ensure that elements aren’t locked or using custom content, otherwise they won’t inherit the default settings.

2.2 Step 2

Now go to your job page: content > pages > job page. Click the title and edit the job page where necessary. Ensure the "Blogs list side" element pulls in the correct content — either on page level or global level (default).

2.3 Step 3

In the final step, make sure candidates can easily navigate to your content. Go to content > menus, select the blog menu or create a new one. Ensure the menu is named appropriately and links to the correct page. Always use a page item to link to a page on your recruitment site.
